Democratic U.S. Senators Refuse to Ban De Facto Infanticide

Written by Laurie Higgins

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act was just defeated because we don’t have enough U.S. senators who oppose infanticide. The vote was 53 in favor and 44 opposed—including 2020 presidential hopefuls Booker, Gillibrand, Harris, Klobuchar, Sanders, and Warren—falling 7 votes short of the 60 needed to pass. Illinoisans should take note that both our senators, Durbin and Duckworth, voted against banning de facto infanticide. This exposes the repugnant and pernicious moral degeneracy of many in our ruling class.… Continue Reading

Hate, Bernie Style

Written by Robert Knight

Two remarkable things unfolded last month.

The Democrats openly embraced socialism in the form of single-payer health care. And they announced a secular, anti-Christian test for public office. The two go together like Abbott and Costello. Or better yet, since this is far from funny, Marx and Lenin.

“Democratic Socialist” Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ scheme for a single-payer, government-run health care system has already been endorsed by 16 Democrat senators.… Continue Reading

Dick Durbin Joins Leftist Colleagues Seeking to Impose a Religious Test on Court Nominee

Written by John Biver

A few Democrat U.S. Senators, including Illinois’ own Dick Durbin, have been criticized for their questioning of 7th Circuit Court of Appeals nominee Amy Coney Barrett on the grounds that they were attempting to impose a religious test in contravention of the U.S. Constitution.

The National Review’s Alexandra DeSanctis provides the background:

Barrett is a law professor at the University of Notre Dame who has written about the role of religion in public life and delivered academic lectures to Christian legal groups.

U.S. Senate Democrats Grill Appointee Over Catholic Faith

Written by Michael Gryboski

A few U.S. Senate Democrats recently grilled a judicial nominee to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals over her Roman Catholic beliefs.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for Notre Dame Law School Professor Amy Coney Barrett held Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., expressed concern over the nominee being too religious.

At issue were comments made by Professor Barrett going as far back as 1998, which some have interpreted as saying that Catholic teaching should take precedence over the law.… Continue Reading

Democratic Leaders Can’t Agree on Issue of Abortion

Written by Joshua Denton

In another recent blow to the Democratic Party’s overall opposition to pro life stances, California Governor Jerry Brown stated that pro life constituents should be welcome in the Democratic Party.

In an interview Sunday, August 6, with NBC’s “Meet the Press” the California Governor (who is himself a former Jesuit novice) said, “I’d say, look, even on the abortion issue, it wasn’t very long ago that a number of Catholic Democrats were opposed to abortion,” Mr.… Continue Reading

America’s Betrayal by the Democratic Party

Written by Jeffrey Ludwig

Are you aware that we are facing a political and cultural tragedy right now?  The Democratic Party, one of two great parties of the USA, has been co-opted by the communist ideologues, the power-mad neo-Marxists, in our political establishment.  They can call it liberalism or social justice or togetherness, but it is my considered judgment that, without exaggeration, we are facing an intent to subvert the electoral will of the American people.… Continue Reading

Durbin’s Ignorant and Anti-Catholic Ideology

Written by Laurie Higgins

This week, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) went after after SCOTUS nominee Neil Gorsuch for studying under the remarkable John M. Finnis.

Wow.

I wonder if Durbin has read anything by Finnis or even knew his name before Gorsuch was nominated?

Sen. Durbin actually suggested that anyone involved in high levels of government dare not study under Professor Finnis who splits his time between Oxford University in England and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, is considered one of the foremost Natural Law scholars, and who holds theologically orthodox Catholic beliefs on homoeroticism and marriage.Continue Reading

Republican Congress Thwarts American People, Passes Obama-Backed Education Bill

Written by Jane Robbins

Several Republican presidential candidates had a great opportunity over the last two weeks to take the lead on an issue critical to millions of conservatives – federal control over public education. A couple helped their cause, a couple did not, and one blasted further down into the crater he’s been in from the beginning.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate followed the U.S. House in passing the conference report reauthorizing No Child Left Behind.… Continue Reading

The Race Card and the Left

Written by David E. Smith

In a sanctimonious and dramatic way, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin recently took to the Senate floor to attack Republicans for holding up the nomination of Loretta Lynch as U.S. Attorney General, saying:

And so, Loretta Lynch, the first African-American woman nominated to be attorney general, is asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar.  That is unfair. It’s unjust. It is beneath the decorum and dignity of the United States Senate.

U.S. Senate Dems Block Anti-Human Trafficking Bill Over Abortion

republican

Written by Michael Gryboski

A previously bipartisan U.S. Senate bill meant to combat human trafficking is now being blocked by Democrats over an abortion funding provision.

Senate Democrats have threatened to block Senate Bill 178 over a provision added by Republicans regarding abortion funding.

“Republicans cast this as a routine extension of the so-called Hyde Amendment, which bans the use of federal funds for abortions except in limited circumstances,” reported Fox News.

“But Democrats said the legislation would mark a significant expansion since it applies to personal funds paid in fines.”

Also called the Justice for Trafficking Victims Act, S.… Continue Reading
