Gov. Ron DeSantis Succeeds on Education Where Other Republicans Failed For Decades

Written by Daniel Horowitz

When was the last time you saw Republicans leading Democrats in any opinion poll on education? Likely never in this generation, not unlike their dismal polling on health care. Education and health care are probably the two most impactful issues on human life, liberty, culture, and economy, yet Republicans have ceded them to the left forever. They tepidly play their “me too” game of acceding to the same socialist policies, merely with less enthusiasm and slightly less funding, rather than offering a new vision altogether.… Continue Reading

SCOTUS Agrees to Hear Religious Freedom Case Involving Postal Worker

Written by Jorge Gomez

Big news: The U.S. Supreme Court announced it will hear our case involving former postal worker Gerald Groff, who was wrongly forced out of his job because of his religious beliefs.

Along with First Liberty, he is represented by Baker Botts LLP, the Church State Council and the Independence Law Center.

The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is not required to grant a religious accommodation for an employee to observe the Sunday Sabbath.… Continue Reading

SPOTLIGHT: Born to Proclaim The Gospel

Written by Jenna Smith

In this edition of Spotlight, IFI’s Dave Smith and Public School Exit’s Ceasar LeFlore converse with Juan Elias-Riesco, former owner of the famous Nini’s Deli in Chicago (which you can learn about through the documentary Paint the Wall Black) and a blazing torch for the kingdom of Christ.

Elias-Riesco’s testimony of how he became a Christian is anything but boring. Growing up on the streets of Chicago, he quickly became hardened to shoplifting and spiraled into a sinful lifestyle that had him in prison and rejecting God’s design for sexuality.… Continue Reading

Consequences of Deceit And Deception: When People Lie, People Die

Written by Dr. Everett Piper

Approximately 2,000 years ago, St. Paul warned first-century Christians of the dangers of lying. In fact, he admonished the church in Rome that the consequences of deceit can be deadly.

“Those who suppress the truth,” he said, “become futile in their thinking” and are “given over to a debased mind.” As a result, they are filled with “all manner of evil” such as “envy, strife, arrogance … and murder.” Paul then lowered the hammer on his argument: When people lie, people die.… Continue Reading

Authoritarian COVID-19 Powers Difficult to Claw Back

Written by Robert Knight

Some things are hard to give up.

Take the extra-constitutional powers governments have exerted because of COVID-19. Officials in otherwise self-governing republics got a zesty taste of what it would be like to operate under an authoritarian regime.

As the Wuhan virus morphs into multiple variations that appear to be less dangerous than the original strain, some authorities don’t want to let go of vaccine or mask mandates. Authority, once granted, can be difficult to claw back.… Continue Reading

Integrating Politics and Science—By First Separating Them

Written by Dr. Lucian Gideon Conway III

Freedom inherently involves risks. If you want your children to roam free at the local playground, they might injure themselves on the big slide. If you want the freedom to watch baseball, someone might get hit in the head by a stray line drive. All decisions about restricting freedom thus require a cost/benefit analysis that weighs the benefits of freedom against the potential risks.

In practice, this analysis requires two very different sets of considerations.… Continue Reading

Lowering Voting Age To 16 Is Insane

Written by Dr. Everett Piper

Generation Citizen, an educational organization funded by the likes of the Bezos Family Foundation, the Soros Foundation and the George Kaiser Family Foundation, just issued its annual report. And what, pray tell, do these billionaires have in store for us, you ask? Well, in addition to promoting “action civics,” aka a neo-Marxist curriculum focused on teaching “over 1 million students” the wonders of victimization rather than virtue, these smart folks are now calling on the nation to lower the federal voting age to 16.… Continue Reading

Democrats’ Appalling Vote Against Life on U.S. House Floor

Written by Robert Knight

The divisions in our country go far beyond conservative versus liberal or Republican versus Democrat. Not that the parties are unimportant. More on that in a minute.

It’s right versus wrong and whether we’ll be able to pass on America’s heritage of liberty and prosperity to our children and grandchildren.

One side — the progressive, Marxist left — wants to expand government to intrude into every human activity except one: sexuality. For that, they seek to eradicate all moral, cultural and legal restraints.… Continue Reading

SPOTLIGHT: Into the Lions’ Den

Written by Jenna Smith

Illinois is a real piece of work when it comes to politics. But just because Christian conservatives are in the super minority in the General Assembly doesn’t mean we can’t still make an impact! We should!

David Curtain is IFI’s lobbyist, navigating the dark corridors of Springfield and the legislation that issues forth from it. He’s been working under the capitol dome for over 30 years, so he knows the ins and outs of government, but he also is a firsthand witness to the power of prayer.… Continue Reading

We Need to Make Illegal Immigration Illegal

Written by Daniel Horowitz

The most effective form of border security is not at the border itself.

Here’s a novel idea based on observations of the ebb and flow of illegal immigration over the past half-century. If you invite illegal aliens into the country and offer them jobs and benefits, they will come. If you make it clear that they will obtain zero benefits and, if caught, will be removed, they will not come. In other words, this is not some sort of natural disaster that requires more personnel at the border to ameliorate the situation.… Continue Reading
