2016 Illinois GOP Platform Report

Convention

Written by David E. Smith

The 2016 Illinois Republican Convention was held in Peoria this past weekend on Friday and Saturday. We are thrilled to report that leftists within the party failed to advance their agenda in the newly adopted 2016 Illinois GOP Platform.

If fact, Illinois Republicans strengthened the Right to Life plank in the platform and rejected an attempt to water down and distort the Marriage and Family plank!

THANK YOU to all of you who took time last week to contact the members of the platform committee and helped to spread the word of the attempt to subvert the Marriage and Family plank. YOU made a huge difference.

The eighteen members of the platform committee (one appointee from each of Illinois’ congressional districts) met on Friday to consider new language for section VII of the platform–the plank on Marriage and Family.… Continue Reading

Pat Brady Seeks to Destroy Marriage, the IL GOP, and Dissent

Friday morning I sent this text message to Pat Brady who sits on the Illinois GOP Platform Committee that proposed removing the marriage plank that defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman:

“Do not replace the marriage plank with the proposed RINO/Libertarian plank that disrespects the view that marriage has an intrinsic nature, [and the view] that children have an intrinsic right to be raised by a mother and a father whenever possible. The language in this pernicious plank necessarily endorses the legal recognition of plural unions. Evidently, RINOs/Libertarians on the committee have no understanding of the essential role marriage has in the health and survival of any society. Mr. Brady, you’ve done enough damage to IL.”

Brady responded, “F**k u.”

Since I’ve never met Brady or talked to him on the phone, and since he responded two minutes after I sent it, it is highly unlikely he knew who sent the text.… Continue Reading

Will Illinois GOP Platform Committee Members Embarrass Themselves?

Remember those infamous Jay Leno Show man on the street interviews? It’s always painful to watch people reveal their ignorance.

There are reports that there is a majority on the Illinois Republican Party Platform Committee who aren’t exactly well-read. Get ready to cringe.

The word on the street is that there are geniuses who think endorsing the radical left-wing (cultural Marxist) LGBT agenda is a good fit for the GOP. Illinois Review is reporting this troubling news:

Eleven of the 18 members of the Illinois Republican Party platform committee reportedly are agreed that the one-man, one-woman marriage plank should be removed from the 2016 platform….Committee members that support removing the section say the IL GOP’s position preferring one-man/one-woman marriage over same sex marriage is viewed negatively by younger voters that are more libertarian on the issue.

Illinois GOP to Remove “Marriage” Plank in Platform

Convention

Written by David E. Smith

Some Illinois Republicans want to stay away from “controversial” issues. They think that removing the traditional marriage plank will somehow help liberal Republicans who are “hurt” by the platform in their swing districts.  First, if they think that they are going to avoid controversy by removing this important plank, they are woefully wrong.  Secondly, the Illinois GOP has its fair share of RINOs elected to office, who are the source of the problem at hand; but clearly demonstrating that liberal Republicans can win with the current state platform.

There is no upside for the Illinois Republican Party to water down the social issues in the platform.  On the contrary, it will only result in a massive fight at the convention and disunity among Republicans. Social conservatives do the lions share of grass roots work in Illinois and watering down the platform will make them less inclined to work hard for candidates running for office.… Continue Reading

Pat Brady Appointed to IL GOP Platform Committee

Brady_ACLU

Written by John Biver

A couple of Illinois political friends and I have been joking for many years about the old saying “it can’t get any worse.” For the Illinois Republican Party, that saying has never been true. Things continually get worse, and failed party leaders are to blame.

One of those failed party leaders has just been appointed to an important post by the 6th District’s State Central Committeeman Brian Colgan, who formerly worked for Senator Mark Kirk and before that Congresswoman Judy Biggert. Colgan appointed disgraced former Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady to serve on the committee that will write the 2016 Illinois GOP Platform.

Who is Pat Brady and what kind of platform might he want to write?

Pat Brady was a disaster as state party chairman.… Continue Reading

Conservative Revolution

The once appealing adjective “moderate” has become perverted by pundits and politicians. It has been twisted into an unrecognizable rhetorical weapon that in reality connotes extremism.

“Moderate” politicians are those who don’t see the product of conception between two humans as human, or alternatively, they believe incipient life is undeserving of constitutional protection. How is that moderate?

“Moderate” politicians are those who don’t believe that marriage has an inherent nature central to which is sexual differentiation, or who don’t believe the legal definition of marriage matters. How is that moderate?

“Moderate” politicians believe that religious liberty will remain unmolested even if same-sex unions are legally recognized as “marriages,” or they don’t care if religious liberty is undermined. How is that moderate?

“Moderate” politicians believe either mothers or fathers are dispensable and that they’re interchangeable.… Continue Reading

More on Gubernatorial Candidate Bruce Rauner

Written by Laurie Higgins

Following my piece on Pat Brady yesterday in which I mentioned gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner, we received email inquiries about his anti-life, anti-marriage views:

  1. In early June, The Chicago Tribune reported that Rauner “supports abortion rights early in pregnancy.” Please note that Rauner didn’t clarify what constitutes “early,” or why babies who have reached mid-gestation deserve protection whereas less developed babies do not. Killing babies 11 weeks after conception is no less evil than killing them at 16, but it would be interesting to know when Rauner believes mothers have the “right” to order the killing of their babies and what his justifications are for that belief.
  2. Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass squeezed a terse and peculiar anti-marriage statement out of a resistant Rauner in April:

Bruce Rauner, the multimillionaire Republican businessman who wants to become governor of Illinois, sat down with me for an interview Thursday and dodged questions about same-sex marriage.

Pat Brady and the Illinois GOP

Written by David E. Smith and Laurie Higgins

This Saturday, the Republican State Central Committee (RSCC) will meet in Chicago for a regular meeting.

A few months ago, it was revealed that Pat Brady, Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, was lobbying Republican state lawmakers in favor of same-sex “marriage.”  By doing this, Pat Brady betrayed conservative family values and the Republican Platform that states:

Our laws should strongly support and celebrate the loving commitment a man and a woman make to each other in marriage. Our laws should strongly support and celebrate a loving, married couple bringing new life into the world and rearing their children in a secure and nurturing environment from conception to adulthood. No law should undermine the importance of that union, divide that union nor unduly burden the efforts of parents to rear a family in a safe and nurturing environment.

Mark Kirk Supports Same-Sex Faux Marriage

Written by Laurie Higgins

In case you didn’t hear the “BIG NEWS,” U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Illinois), serial prevaricator, has finally come out of the closet on marriage. He has announced his support for the elimination of sexual complementarity from the legal definition of marriage. I’m shocked.

In a maudlin and self-referential statement Kirk explained, “When I climbed the Capitol steps in January, I promised myself that I would return to the Senate with an open mind and greater respect for others….Same-sex couples should have the right to civil marriage. Our time on this earth is limited, I know that better than most. Life comes down to who you love and who loves you back — government has no place in the middle.”

When polygamists and polyamorists come knocking on marriage’s door, we should all remember Kirk’s wise words that “government has no place” getting between people who love each other.  … Continue Reading

Another Conservative Activist Speaks Out

Conservative Republicans from across the state are bewildered by the failure of the Illinois Republican State Central Committee (SCC) to remove Chairman Pat Brady from his position in the wake of his betrayal on the issue of marriage.  Pat Brady has not only misrepresented the GOP Platform — damaging the GOP brand, but he has partnered with Democrats to lobby for same-sex marriage legislation — an extreme Left social issue that will usher in bigger government and less freedom.  (Read more HERE.)

Conservative activists from across the state continue to speak out to the SCC.  Here is just another great example:

Dear Illinois GOP Central Committee:

I have been a registered Republican for over 40 years, leaving the Democratic Party in disgust because of its morally objectionable platform and liberal philosophies.
