A lawsuit filed by a Democratic Party attorney seeks to prevent term limits and political redistricting questions from appearing on Illinois’ ballot in November.
The lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court argues that the state Board of Elections shouldn’t spend public funds on two proposals to amend the Illinois constitution that it calls invalid.
The first would establish term limits for lawmakers and is led by GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner. The second would create an independent commission to draw legislative district lines.… Continue Reading

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk said on the radio late yesterday that he will, in fact, campaign for Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Jim Oberweis. This statement comes as a complete 180 degree turn from his answer a month ago when asked about Oberweis. At that time he said he would not support Oberweiss because he valued his relationship with Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin.

On Wednesday, Governor Pat Quinn dressed up the demands of a hostage-taker into a state budget address—again.
In advance of the permanently temporary personal and corporate income tax increases he imposed on Illinois in 2011, Quinn argued that without the tax increases, social service providers would suffer.
In fact, he would see to it that they did.
Quinn’s less than subtle message to the human services community was that if they wanted to avoid seeing the invoices they submitted to the state for services rendered put into the permanently permanent pay-no-mind bin in the Governor’s office they best fall in line.
