“Dysfunctional” Democrats May Keep House Supermajority

Madigan

Written by Russ Stewart

Michael Madigan is a political genius, a durable Democratic leader, a successful and wealthy lawyer, and a horrendously dysfunctional speaker of the Illinois House.

Mayor Richard J. Daley once babbled some nonsense that “Good government is good politics.” He should have known better, as he spent a decade in Springfield, where the operative philosophy is “good politics may be good government, but if it’s not, so what?” Grasping, clutching and holding power is endemic.… Continue Reading

November Election Result will be “UPS Moment”

The Nov. 4 election, for Democratic politicians in Chicago, will be a “UPS moment.” Which committeemen among the 50 Chicago wards will deliver, and will their delivery be decisive and intimidating?

With Chicago politicians already heavily focused on the Feb. 24, 2015, municipal election, and those with statewide ambitions intensely pondering the state landscape for 2016 and 2018, the 2014 vote will, to use that old expression, “separate the men from the boys.”… Continue Reading

The Rev. Ira J. Acree, a leader in the Illinois faith community, a social justice activist and senior pastor of Greater St. John Bible Church, today announced his endorsement of businessman Jim Oberweis in his bid to unseat Illinois’ Democratic U.S. Senator Dick Durbin. The endorsement from Rev. Acree, a West Side power-broker, comes just days after Oberweis met with African American clergy on the West Side, and where he expressed his commitment to bringing more jobs to the inner city, encouraging business development and supporting initiatives for safe communities.… Continue Reading

Who Really Pays?

 37-1

By Pat Hughes –

In an interview with CNBC, President Barack Obama said: “if you’re basically still an American company but you’re simply changing your mailing address in order to avoid paying taxes, then you’re really not doing right by the country.”

The real question, however, is not why companies are fleeing the USA (and, likewise, states such as Illinois), but why the political establishment continues to drive them out?

If we are committed to “creating jobs,” does it make sense to levy the highest corporate tax rate in the Western world on our biggest and best job creators?… Continue Reading

Roll Up Your Sleeves for Heidi!

Heidi Holan

Written by David E. Smith

The Illinois General Election is just over eight weeks away, and it’s time to roll up our sleeves to help elect great pro-family lawmakers to represent our values in Springfield.

To that end, I am personally asking you to volunteer some time to support the campaign of Heidi Holan who is running for state representative in your district against a pro-abortion, big government incumbent.

Heidi has been a strong voice for our values, working hard to protect parental rights’ policies throughout the state and nation. … Continue Reading

Fire Sale in the Chicago!

Great Chicago Fire

Written by Luke Hamilton

Did Mrs. O’Leary’s cow kick over another lantern??

Why are residents and businesses streaming out of Illinois in alarming numbers? Over the past several years, dozens of companies have left Illinois; either shifting corporate HQ to more favorable tax climates or moving the entire company itself. Organizations like Jelly Belly, OfficeMax, Baxter International, Jimmy John’s, FatWallet.com, Hostess Brands, Sony Biotechnology, and State Farm Insurance have moved out of the state or have announced their intention to do so in the near future.… Continue Reading

Illinois’ Backlog of Unpaid Bills Total $4.4 Billion

?????????????????

Written by Benjamin BanMetre

Illinois began August with a $4.4 billion dollar backlog of unpaid bills. If lawmakers would have kept the promises they made in 2011, the backlog would be zero today – or close to it.

In January 2011, Illinois lawmakers pushed through a record tax hike that raised the income tax rate on individuals to 5 percent from 3 percent, and on corporations to 7 percent from 4.8 percent. They called it the Taxpayer Accountability and Budget Stabilization Act and went on record making the following promises:

“We have some temporary tax increases that are designed to pay our bills, get Illinois back on fiscal sound footing and make sure that our state has a strong economy.”

$20.4 Billion Migrated Out of Illinois

The Tax Foundation posted a fascinating map earlier this week showing the migration of personal incomes between states – where personal income was subtracted from one state and added to another, along with the movers.

Florida benefited the most—interstate migrants brought a net $67.3 billion dollars in annual income into the state between 2000 and 2010. The next two highest gainers were Arizona ($17.7 billion) and Texas ($17.6 billion).

Illinois, with our high taxes and low employment came in third from worst ($-20.4 billion).  … Continue Reading

Tell Us Again How Rauner is a Fiscal Conservative?!?!

Written by IllinoisReview.com

GOP gubernatorial nominee Bruce Rauner says he has no problem with a November ballot measure that will ask Illinois voters whether the state should increase the minimum wage.

“The voters are going to be allowed to make their voices heard on a nonbinding referendum. I’m supportive of that,” he said Tuesday.

Rauner also said he’d support raising the minimum wage under two scenarios: If it were increased nationwide; and/or if it were tied to pro-business reforms in Illinois.… Continue Reading
