Illinois’ Political Revolving Door

Chicago Has Stricter Revolving Door Lobbying Rules
than the Illinois General Assembly

Written by Cal Skinner
McHenry County Blog – Former Illinois State Representative

With the current budding scandals in Chicago, it’s hard to believe that the city council’s ethics rules are stricter than Springfield’s, but, that is the case.

Former Chicago Alderman Will Burns broke the revolving door rule which prohibits Aldermen from lobbying the city within a year after leaving office. He resigned, went to work for Airbnb and, before twelve months had elapsed, Burns called a city official on behalf of his new employer and appeared on WTTW’s “Chicago Tonight” to talk about the regulatory ordinance being considered by his former colleagues. … Continue Reading

Republican Vince Romano Challenges State Rep. Lou Lang in the 16th District

Written by John Biver

Vince Romano is once again challenging state Rep. Lou Lang in district 16, which includes parts of Chicago, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, and Skokie. Rep. Lang has held his Illinois House seat for 30 years, and is Speaker Madigan’s Deputy Majority Leader.

Romano, a former financial advisor for Morgan Stanley, senses a growing discontent with Rep. Lang around the district, even among Democrats. Lang has a growing reputation of not being a man of his word, Romano said, “he makes a lot of promises and doesn’t have to bother fulfilling them because he sees his reelection as guaranteed — he’s a part of the Madigan machine.”… Continue Reading

PODCAST: State Rep. Lou Lang’s Foolish Chief of Staff Bert Brooke

Americans, including conservatives, have become desensitized to the reprobate nature of our polity. Our leaders are depraved and the policies and laws they seek to effect reflect their corruption and foolishness. A perfect example of such corruption oozes out of the office of State Representative Lou Lang (D-Skokie). As a co-sponsor of HB 40 that just went down in flames, Lang stands boldly and unashamedly in favor of forcing taxpayers to pay for the killing of human persons in the womb.… Continue Reading

“Dysfunctional” Democrats May Keep House Supermajority

Madigan

Written by Russ Stewart

Mayor Richard J. Daley once babbled some nonsense that “Good government is good politics.” He should have known better, as he spent a decade in Springfield, where the operative philosophy is “good politics may be good government, but if it’s not, so what?” Grasping, clutching and holding power is endemic.… Continue Reading

Nine Reasons to Reject Equal Rights Amendment

Written by Kathy Valente

Last week the Illinois Senate voted 39 to 11 to pass SJRCA 75, the dangerous Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), the effort to amend the U.S. Constitution to say: “Equality of rights under law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex.”

This legislation is now in the Illinois House for consideration and debate.  State Representative Lou Lang (D-Skokie) is the chief sponsor.
