Clear and Present Media Bias

Written by David E. Smith

In hosting the second presidential debate of the general election season, ABC News once again exposed themselves as left-wing ideologues and staunch allies of Kamala Harris. Debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis repeatedly inserted themselves into the debate in specious ways in an obvious attempt to embarrass President Trump.

Mrs. Davis was the first to interject after Trump expressed his concern about late-term abortion and even infanticide. Before directing the next question to Harris, Davis falsely claimed,

“There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.”

Pro-life activists like me immediately responded, jeering at the screen, “Are you serious?!?!

Was Davis just ignorant of the status of abortion in the states or was she intentionally being deceitful, providing cover for Harris’ abortion extremism? Many of us believe it is the latter.

Who can forget how Ralph Northam, former governor of Virginia, callously referred to infanticide on WTOP radio as no big deal? Read the transcript of his comments, as reported by CNN:

“[Third-trimester abortions are] done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s nonviable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,”

“The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

What Northam was suggesting (live on air) would violate the federal Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which was signed into law in 2002. That is if states like Virginia were actually enforcing the federal law. The act ensures that any infant born alive, regardless of the circumstances of their birth, is provided with the same legal protections and rights as any other individual. This includes the right to medical care.

Trump was correct to highlight this extremism during the debate. These things are most certainly happening, and certain left-wing officials are either promoting infanticide or refusing to pass state legislation outlawing it.

In Illinois, similar legislation to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act was introduced multiple times. As an Illinois State Senator, Barack Obama voted against these bills in committee and on the Senate floor in 2001, 2002, and 2003. In fact, he was the only state senator to speak out against it on the Illinois Senate floor during debate.

The state bill included the same wording as the federal bill, which passed in the U.S. Senate by a unanimous vote in 2002. Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer, and yes, even Joe Biden voted to pass this bill.

Obama’s opposition was primarily based on concerns that the legislation could be seen as undermining Roe v. Wade by potentially granting legal rights to preborn babies before viability, which could affect so-called “abortion rights.”

As we now know, that is the last thing abortion cheerleaders want to do – acknowledge the personhood of human beings in the womb. Why? Because it would mean preborn babies would have human and civil rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

No Restrictions

Pro-life advocates here in Illinois remember acutely the day SB 25 was passed and signed into law in 2019. Democrats in blue states across the nation, including Illinois, were preparing for the demise of Roe v. Wade. Their goal was to remove ALL legal restrictions on abortion at the state level in the event that Roe was overturned.

And that is exactly what they did. Illinois now has zero restrictions regarding the slaughter of human beings in the womb. (Learn more HERE.)

This means that abortion can be committed at any time during pregnancy, including on the day of birth. And if this is happening, how would we ever know that infants born alive are not being set aside to die as they were at Christ Hospital at the turn of the century, as nurse-turned-pro-life activist Jill Stanek testified before Congress?

Illinois is not the only bloodthirsty state in the nation. Planned Parenthood’s Guttmacher Institute lists the following states (as well as Illinois), as “protective,” “very protective” or “most protective” of abortion rights on their interactive map:

Minnesota, California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon, Vermont, Mayland, Connecticut, and Hawaii.

Cathy Blaeser’s Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life issued the following statement regarding the democrat nominee for vice president in the wake of Tuesday’s presidential debate:

“In 2023, Gov. Walz signed a bill (HF 1) creating a right to abortion for any reason and at any time during pregnancy. But he went even further: He also signed a bill (SF 2995) repealing a requirement to provide medically appropriate lifesaving care to born-alive infants. Under Walz’s legislation, viable babies could be set aside, with only comfort care, and allowed to die. Babies with disabilities, whose lives are often devalued, are especially at risk. Minnesota’s abortion policy is now as extreme as any in the world—and serves as an ominous sign of what a Harris-Walz administration would pursue in the White House.” (Read more HERE.)

Minnesota Family Institute’s Moses Bratrud reiterates this point, saying:

“Minnesota does not protect babies at any time during pregnancy. It does not even protect babies born alive during an abortion. This is where Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, stand on the issue of abortion – through the moment of birth, or even later.”

And according to our friend Rev. Gregory Quinlan of the Center for Garden State Families:

New Jersey allows abortions up to the moment of birth. New Jersey under the Democrat-controlled government with assistance by some Republicans has become the most abortion-friendly and accessible state in the USA.

The media is deceiving the public by ignoring these horrific facts. Some of our most populous states have passed laws allowing for abortions right up to the time of delivery. They want to draw our attention away from the truth: Infanticide is taking place.

In countries like the Netherlands, government officials have recently expanded “its child euthanasia policy to include terminally ill and suffering children of any age.”

Think this slippery slope can’t reach the United States?

Consider this 2013 article published by the Journal of Medical Ethics and posted on a National Institute of Health page, titled: “After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?” The abstract description alone should set off alarm bells for every decent human being:

Abortion is largely accepted even for reasons that do not have anything to do with the fetus’ health. By showing that (1) both fetuses and newborns do not have the same moral status as actual persons, (2) the fact that both are potential persons is morally irrelevant and (3) adoption is not always in the best interest of actual people, the authors argue that what we call ‘after-birth abortion’ (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is not disabled.

Do we really want to give government officials and bureaucrats the authority to determine the value of human lives? Can we see how this will morph into involuntary euthanasia for those who are deemed undeserving of resources and care?

Considering these current atrocities and the ones to come, we should be grateful that President Trump doesn’t remain silent. He is highlighting something wicked that is polluting our states and nation.

It is the responsibility of every serious Christian to expose these deeds of death and darkness and boldly stand in defense of the human rights of those pre-born babies who are “being led away to death.” (Ephesians 5:11; Proverbs 24:11)
