Reboot Illinois and We Ask America released a poll Thursday putting Republican candidate Bruce Rauner ahead of incumbent Governor Pat Quinn by 10 points – 9 points less than Rauner’s 19-point lead a month ago. WROK reports:

State Senator Sam McCann (R-Jacksonville) issued a statement Tuesday saying he is not running for governor.
“I am humbled and honored,” said the statement. “However, despite rumors to the contrary, I am not an independent candidate for governor.”
News of a possible McCann run for governor emerged Friday. IllinoisReview.com reported on the rumors and posted a copy of the petition yesterday.

Illinois will likely spend about $4 million to mail pamphlets and buy newspaper ad space to tell voters about several efforts to change the state constitution in the November election, a state spokesman says.
Secretary of State spokesman Dave Druker told The Associated Press on Friday that his agency is required by law to produce almost 6 million pamphlets that include information about the pros and cons of each proposed constitutional amendment.
About 5.2 million pamphlets will be mailed to every Illinois household before the election, and others will be available in libraries or political offices.… Continue Reading

Although no official statement has come from State Senator Sam McCann, rumors persist that the Carlinville Republican is seriously considering a third-party run for governor of Illinois.
While still possible to get on the ballot, McCann would need to gather at least 25,000 petition signatures by June 23rd – the last day independents or new party candidates can turn in petitions to the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE).

The Chicago Republican Party has wrapped up its recruiting season, filing four Illinois General Assembly candidates for seats in the City of Chicago. The four are in addition to the eight candidates slated Chicago GOP recruited last year.
