Non-Citizens Will Have the Power to Arrest Legal American Citizens in Illinois?

Written by Nancy Hayes

At a recent Three Headed Eagle Alliance event called “Pints and Politics,” Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur), a member of the Illinois Freedom Caucus stated: “No non-citizen American should ever be in a position to arrest an American citizen in America.”

This seems like an obvious statement, but Caulkins was responding to the recent passing of HB 3751, which amends the Illinois Municipal Code by adding the following:

An individual who is not a citizen but is legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law can now apply for the position of police officer.

Of course, the noncitizen is subject to all requirements and limitations to which other applicants are subject—other than citizenship.

This wonderful new bill won’t go into effect until January 1, 2024, but how scary is it to realize that a noncitizen American will have the police power to arrest an American citizen here in America?

Did I mention this goes against federal law?

Oh, but wait, there’s more.

Amendment I of this bill also amends county code – adding a deputy sheriff or special policeman may be an individual who is NOT a citizen, but legally authorized to work.

Wait, there’s still more…

Amendment 2 of this bill also states that this noncitizen would also be subject to federal approval to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm.

Seriously?! The state of Illinois is going to not only give this illegal citizen a job as a police officer or sheriff but also entitle them to the right to carry or purchase a gun?

By the way, did you know current federal law prohibits gun possession for illegal immigrants?

Now, just think about the millions of illegal immigrants coming across the border and getting their “free” phones, “free” cash, “free” downtown Chicago hotel accommodations, and “free” healthcare. Then think about how many Chinese Communists, Venezuela socialists, Russian Marxists and Mexican cartel members have made it across the border illegally over the past several years.

NOW they can also become police officers and legally carry a gun. Don’t forget the nice pension that comes with the job, either!

Did I mention that in the recent legislative session in Illinois, the 2023/24 budget includes an additional $500 million to $1 billion in healthcare for illegal immigrants?

This insanity needs to stop! Wake up, people!

This is all included in Illinois’ newly proposed $50.6 BILLION budget; the most expensive budget EVER for Illinois.

At this point, who in the Illinois House is fighting for TRUTH, LOGIC, and COMMON SENSE?

Well, it seems it’s mainly the representatives and leaders that are part of the Illinois Freedom Caucus and a couple of others.

Those who voted AGAINST HB 3751 in the Illinois House were Illinois Freedom Caucus members Dan Caulkins, Jed Davis, Adam Niemerg, Blaine Wilhour, Chris Miller, Brad Halbrook, and non-Caucus member Tom Weber. That’s IT, folks!

That’s only seven freedom-loving members of the Illinois House who voted against this monstrosity of a bill.

In the Illinois Senate, we fared a bit better. There, 20 members voted against HB 3751, including Anderson, Bennett, Bryant, Chesney, Curran, DeWitte, Fowler, Harriss, Joyce, Lewis, McClure, Plummer, Preston, Rezin, Rose, Stoller, Syverson, Tracy, Turner (S), and Wilcox.

Now you might be asking yourself, what Republicans could possibly have voted YES on this? The list includes Illinois House Republican Leader Tony McCombie, Ryan Spain, Marty McLaughlin, Jackie Haas and John Egofske, along with our Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie.

Both Republican leaders, McCombie and McConchie, also voted in favor of Amendment I.

Do you realize that beginning January 1, 2024, this means an armed NONCITIZEN could have the power to arrest a legal American citizen in Illinois?

According to Federal law, this doesn’t make ANY sense, let alone the fact that it’s also against federal law for an illegal immigrant to possess a gun.

Stop and think about this for a minute.

In the state of Illinois, we are giving police powers to noncitizens. Noncitizens will have the ability to arrest legal citizens in America. This should be of absolute concern to every legal citizen of Illinois and America.

As Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) stated,

“To hand the power to arrest and detain a citizen of this state, or a citizen of ANY state in the U.S., to a NONCITIZEN is a FUNDAMENTAL BREACH of DEMOCRACY!”

Rose went on to add,

“It is an antithetical police power of ANY state.”

“This is a fundamentally bad idea. There’s no fixing it, there’s no amending it, there’s no nothing. It’s just a fundamentally bad idea.

If you want to become a police officer, shouldn’t you FIRST become a U.S. citizen? After all, police officers and sheriffs take an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution. It would seem like common sense. How can you uphold the U.S. Constitution on the one hand and on the other hand be breaking the law by entering the country illegally?

Concerning the police oath, the Illinois State Police website specifically states,

This is the oath taken by every Illinois State Police Trooper. These men and women take pride in embracing the core values of law enforcement, with the sole objective of being excellent Illinois State Police public service employees. This oath is an ongoing and enduring promise of our commitment to the Citizens of the State of Illinois.

It begins like this:

I solemnly vow to the people of Illinois

It continues…

I pledge to be honest in thought, word, and deed….

And here’s the BIG one…

“But I shall never compromise with crime and shall, at all times, uphold the Constitutions and laws of my country and the state of Illinois.”

It would then seem that not only is the new HB 3751 in conflict with federal law and the Constitution but also the very oath the noncitizen would swear to uphold as an officer.

Again, how can a noncitizen take an oath of office “to promise to uphold the U.S. Constitution” when he or she is not even a legal American citizen?

Where is common sense?

Isn’t it enough that we give illegal immigrants “free” phones, “free cash”, “free” lodging, and “free” healthcare? By the way, all these “free” services aren’t free at all but rather are funded by the tax dollars of legal citizens.

Do you think it makes sense to put illegal immigrants or noncitizens in Illinois in a position to arrest American citizens, or do you agree with Rep. Dan Caulkins and the other Illinois Freedom Caucus members?

I don’t know about you, but I’m standing with Rep. Caulkins and the other members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus on this one.

What’s the next step? Granting illegal immigrants driver’s licenses and automatic voter registration in Illinois?

Oh, wait. Granting illegal immigrants driver’s licenses was already voted on and included in the new budget for 2023/24.

But don’t worry, I’m sure the legislators took precautions against automatic voter registrations, right?

Because we all know noncitizens can’t vote legally in elections, so I’m sure that never happens.

After all, the elections in 2020 were the “most secure in American history,” so we have nothing to worry about.

What happened in swing states like Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin…well, all those irregularities were just “misinformation.”

There were no real anomalies or irregularities, were there?

Move along. Nothing to see here.
