The 2018 March for Life, the world’s largest pro-life event, will be held [today] — Friday, January 19, in Washington, DC.
Every year since 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court made its infamous decision in Roe v. Wade, pro-life activists have gathered in our nation’s capitol to mark the anniversary in a somber, peaceful demonstration. Over 20,000 attended the first March for Life in 1974 and now the number of participants reaches over 400,000.… Continue Reading

Here is one definition of the expression “any given Sunday”:
It comes from American professional football, which is played (mainly) on Sunday. The full adage goes “on any given Sunday, any team can beat any other team,” meaning that a weaker team still has a chance against a stronger opponent. A related sports phrase is “you have to play the games (to determine the outcome).”
The IFI series on Identity Politics and Paraphilias continues to highlight one of the many the opportunities that the American political left has given the American political right.… Continue Reading

In this week’s edition of Illinois Family Spotlight, Monte Larrick and Dave Smith sit down to talk with Bishop Lance Davis about the push to legalize recreational marijuana. Bishop Davis is the senior pastor of New Zion Covenant Church in Dolton, Illinois and chairman of the African American Clergy Coalition.
Background
Last year, Illinois State Senator Heather Steans (D-Chicago) and State Representative Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) introduced legislation to legalize recreational marijuana in Illinois (HB 2353) and began holding public hearings on the issue to build support and excitement for this insidious policy. … Continue Reading

America’s in trouble, we’re told.
Our politics is coarse and divided. The media have been driven mad by the need to break scoops first, leading to clumsy and embarrassing errors. Social media are turning us all into Narcissus, staring distractedly into digital pools, erasing our ability to think critically. The world’s rising powers no longer fret over our might.
Doomsaying is prominent, but not all are saturnine. Haley Britzky of Axios recently tried to lighten the country’s dark skies by listing “9 things America is getting right.”… Continue Reading

Monte and Dave are back with Ralph Rivera, a lobbyist for Illinois Right to Life Action and Illinois Family Institute.
This week’s edition of Spotlight features a discussion about the March 20th primary, the lawsuit surrounding HB 40, a bill enacting taxpayer funding of abortion, SB 1564 a bill that forces medical personnel to refer women to abortion clinics, the sanctuary state legislation signed by Governor Rauner, the Equal Rights Amendment, and new legislation concerns, including physician assisted suicide, and recreational marijuana.… Continue Reading

In a high tax state that’s bankrupt and losing residents and jobs, one might think that our government officials would have better things to do than legalizing marijuana for recreational use. And one would be wrong. Especially when taxing marijuana is seen as yet another source of revenue for their almost bankrupt tax coffers.
The Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems (ICAAAP) issued an alert this week bringing attention to the fact that there will be an advisory referendum on the Cook County Ballot calling on the state to legalize marijuana.… Continue Reading

Even though Antifa’s name is a derivative of “anti-fascists,” its track records shows it is not true to its name, as its members’ violent activity witnessed at Trump’s inauguration and rallies – not to mention their regular attempts to silence free speech on numerous college campuses from coast to coast – is currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for domestic terrorism.
As a professed Muslim with a history of supporting Islamic terrorist groups, Ellison appears not be worried about his latest proud display of support for Antifa, of which the FBI has issued warnings about its anticipated violent demonstrations in the near future.… Continue Reading

On the last day of bad old last year, Lake Superior State University released its 43rd annual List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness.
The ripest for excision was “fake news.” “Let that sink in.”
I mean, “let that sink in” was another “impactful” phrase needing banning. As was (can we get an Amen?) “impactful.” (Most banned words are those that fill the air in corporate meetings.)… Continue Reading

Year two of the President Donald J. Trump presidency doesn’t technically begin until later this month, but a quick look back at 2017 and ahead to 2018 is in order.
First, 2017. Many of those who have been working in the political trenches for a long time welcomed Trump’s candidacy and presidency. Why? Because we had witnessed close-up how so many good conservative leaders were failing decade after decade to successfully advance conservative policies.… Continue Reading

One wonders what would have happened if the Sweet Cakes by Melissa case involved not the owners refusing to be coerced to violate their religious conscience by providing a cake not to two same-sex people celebrating their union and calling it a marriage, but rather a Muslim bakery being forced to bake a cake decorated with a cartoon picture of the prophet Muhammad covered with bacon sprinkles.
Would the bakery in that scenario be forced to pay a heavy business-killing fine for actually believing that the Founding Fathers meant freedom of religion when they enshrined it in the First Amendment? … Continue Reading
