Hairbrained Schemes to Defund Police

Written by Laurie Higgins

Minneapolis City Council member, community organizer, and Antifa-supporter Jeremiah Ellison—son of the first Muslim to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and current Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison—tweeted this yesterday:

We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department.

Not to be outdone, Lisa Bender, Minneapolis City Council president, then tweeted this:

Yes, We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a transformative new model of public safety.

Yeah, “progressives” have been doing a bang-up job of transforming society over the past fifty years with their transformative models of social justice, “reproductive justice,” sexuality, and intersectionality.

The now 30-year-old Ellison has, shall we say, an interesting background. When he ran for city council in 2017, he said this about sitting council members:

I know a lot of people on the council. I’ve met a lot of people on the council. But one thing I’ve learned is, as nice as a nice handshake is, someone will shake your hand, kiss your baby, and slit your throat at the same time.

Unusual campaign tactic, but evidently it worked. Even though Ellison is a college drop-out/mural painter, he had no trouble getting elected to the Minneapolis City Council when he was 28. I’m sure his father’s political connections had nothing to do with that.

With cities burning and marred by smashed windows, shattered dreams, and terrified faces, leftists propose defunding police departments all across the country, including here in the Land of Lincoln.

State Representative Carol Ammons (D-Urbana) hopes to propose a bill “to prohibit law enforcement from getting surplus military equipment.” Ammons thinks the source of our societal ills is pent-up energy and not enough greenspace:

Why don’t we invest into our parks and our resources where people can get out and get some of the energy out that are really pent up in their homes as opposed to putting it into more tasers and police body cameras.

In addition to sycophantic colorless “progressives” who take the knee anytime a “progressive” person of color gives the command, who do you think loves proposals to defund police? Lawless anarchists and young criminals who will destroy businesses and sell dope to children while Ammons capers about the park, that’s who.

Huffpost denies that harebrained proposals to defund police are “radical.” Rather, according to Huffpost, these proposals are,

[A]ctually an acknowledgment of a simple point: Police departments typically have way, way more money than other government services that could better serve communities without subjecting them to brutality and violence.

Is that the role of police departments? To subject their communities “to brutality and violence”? Many Americans believe the role of police departments is to protect public safety and property.

Do tell, Huffpost, which “other government agencies” will stop the looting, arson, and other assorted forms of mayhem committed by spoiled suburban “progressive” Peter Pans and young, alienated, angry, fatherless criminals?

How do these “other government agencies” intend to prevent spoiled suburban Peter Pans indoctrinated by government schools to hate America and its founding principles, documents, and institutions from “deconstructing” America? How will these “other government agencies” with no investment in true marriage keep young, angry, fatherless men from their lawless business?

Why anyone—and especially women—would ever contemplate electing a Democrat is beyond me. Do they know what happens to women in lawless societies? Do they understand what society will devolve into if the party that shouts abortion, celebrates pornography, sexually integrates women’s locker rooms, and cheers anarchy adds yet more power to its arsenal?
