Let’s Stop Pretending Biden is a Virtuous Man

There’s a developing tendency on the right when discussing the current presidential race to regard former Vice President Joe Biden as “at least a decent and honest guy.” He isn’t a communist like Bernie, that’s true. And he isn’t a congenital liar who deceives others for profit and power like Warren. Or isn’t he?

That’s the question that I think it’s important for conservatives to answer as we border on making Vice President Biden a palatable choice in the race for president. The truth is that Biden is far from the affable, polite, congenial character we allow the media to perpetually paint him. Who is he?

He’s the guy who called a Democrat caucus-goer “fat” and a “d*** liar” all because he asked a challenging question.

He’s the guy who accused a primary voter of being a “lying, dog-faced, pony soldier” because she sought an explanation from him that he found perplexing.

He’s the guy who is to blame for the current absurd and inhumane circus that unfolds every time there is a U.S. Supreme Court nomination. Remember it was Biden who teamed with Ted Kennedy to humiliate and personally savage the character and humanity of Robert Bork all because they disagreed with him politically. If you were appalled by the treatment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, don’t blame Chuck Schumer. If you were frustrated by the treatment of Merrick Garland, don’t blame Mitch McConnell. Blame who invented this nutty charade – Joe Biden.

He’s the guy who admitted on national television during a debate with Paul Ryan that he believes in his church’s teaching that human life begins at conception, but then turned right around and declared he didn’t believe the law should be used to protect that human life from homicide. What kind of a sick perspective is that? He’s not saying abortion is okay because it’s not really a human being. He’s saying it is a human being, but for political reasons he is okay with allowing it to be murdered.

He’s the guy who for years told gullible audiences the tragic story of how his wife and daughter were killed by a drunk driver:

“A tractor-trailer, a guy who allegedly — and I never pursued it — drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch, broadsided my family and killed my wife instantly and killed my daughter instantly and hospitalized my two sons.”

Despicably, that story was not true and Biden knew it. The police report and lead investigator all established that Mrs. Biden had a stop sign and the driver of the tractor-trailer that hit her did not. She tragically had pulled out in front of him, causing the accident. None of us who haven’t dealt with it can imagine the grief Joe Biden experienced from this tragedy.

Now imagine being the driver of that tractor-trailer, not only dealing with feelings of unnecessary guilt for an accident you didn’t cause, but having someone as high profile as Joe Biden lie about you – maligning and blaming you for the entire thing. After that poor man died in 1999, his family had to continue battling Joe Biden to quit slandering him.

That’s who Joe Biden is. So let’s slow our roll a bit on pretending he’s a virtuous moderate who tells the truth and appeals to our best angels as citizens. A long life of evidence indicates otherwise.
