Democratic U.S. Senators Refuse to Ban De Facto Infanticide

Written by Laurie Higgins

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act was just defeated because we don’t have enough U.S. senators who oppose infanticide. The vote was 53 in favor and 44 opposed—including 2020 presidential hopefuls Booker, Gillibrand, Harris, Klobuchar, Sanders, and Warren—falling 7 votes short of the 60 needed to pass. Illinoisans should take note that both our senators, Durbin and Duckworth, voted against banning de facto infanticide. This exposes the repugnant and pernicious moral degeneracy of many in our ruling class.

What a moral Gordian Knot the passage of this bill would have tied around all the Gosnells who commit abortions: If passed, they would have been required by law to provide medical treatment to the tiny, weak humans moments before they had tried to kill. Can’t have that. So, a bunch of Gosnell acolytes in the U.S. Senate cut that Gordian knot as easily as Gosnell cut spinal cords. They voted “NO” to helping human babies born alive.

Houston Baptist University professor of theology Robert A. J. Gagnon describes the fetid moral quicksand into which child-sacrifice idolaters have plunged themselves:

It’s a sure sign of how evil abortion is that the greatest fear of those contemplating one for themselves or a loved one is this: The abortionist might not be successful in killing the child after brutalizing it in the womb. So Democrats have to reserve the option of killing the child shortly after birth, for conscience’ sake.

Appearing on Fox News, the bill’s sponsor, U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE), poignantly lamented the actions of his colleagues:

This is about the most simple thing you can say, which is that a baby is a baby, and they have dignity and worth. And it’s not because they’re powerful. It’s because they’re babies. Today is a sad day in the United States Senate.

In contrast, Senator Chuck Schumer said Sasse’s bill, which would have required doctors to treat newborn survivors of abortion the same as all other newborns, “has nothing, nothing, nothing to do with protecting children.” Hmmm… 🤔

According to the New York Times, professor of obstetrics and gynecology and abortionist Dr. Daniel Grossman, who opposed the bill, argues that “it hardly ever happens” that a baby is born alive after a failed attempt at killing it. Does the rarity of such occurrences justify them? Whatever happened to the oft-cited principle, “if just one life can be saved…”?

Now that Congress has failed to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act can there be any doubt that the real goal of baby-butchery-choice advocates is not “pregnancy termination” but dead babies?

IFI Worldview Conference

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, the Illinois Family Institute will be hosting our annual Worldview Conference. This coming year, we will focus on the “transgender” revolution. We already have commitments from Dr. Michelle Cretella, President of the American College of Pediatricians; Walt Heyer, former “transgender” and contributor to Public Discourse; Denise Schick, Founder and Director of Help 4 Families, and daughter of a man who “identified” as a woman; and Doug Wilson, who is a Senior Fellow of Theology at New Saint Andrews College in Moscow, Idaho, and pastor at Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho .

The Transgender Ideology:
What Is It? Where Will It Lead? What is the Church’s Role?
