How Celebrating Fidelity Challenges the Culture of Divorce and Self-Interest

This edition of Illinois Family Spotlight features special guest, Christopher Parr of Princeton University.

Christopher Parr, along with Professor Robert George, is part of a volunteer team that leads the June Fidelity Month initiative — a positive alternative to “Pride Month” that encourages faithfulness to God, family, and community.

With America drifting more and more away from faith, family, and freedom, Fidelity Month seeks to once again unify Americans around the core values of our faith in God, our founding documents, our covenant marriages, and our families. In an interview with Catholic World Report, Professor George explains,

“Faith in God, fidelity to spouses and families, patriotism, and love for country and community have always been the glue that held Americans together… The one area in which the faith of Americans increased was in the importance of money. But material things are secondary to what really matters: God, marriage and children, and our communities.”

Regarding convent relationships, Parr points out,

“Actually, it’s a good thing that we have bonds on us. Responsibilities to our religious congregations, to our families– those limit us and limit our freedom actually in good ways and channel our action towards what’s good and right.”
