SPOTLIGHT: Bishop Paprocki and Attorney Brejcha on Rotunda Nativity Scene
Written by David E. Smith
As the new year approaches, we close out 2021 with a nativity-focused edition of Spotlight. In our first segment, we feature the homily given by the Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki, Bishop of the Springfield Diocese, at the blessing of the nativity scene displayed in the Capitol rotunda of the Illinois Statehouse. The nativity crèche is a public expression of Christian faith and is presented, through private funding, by the Springfield Nativity Scene Committee.
After the break, Monte Larrick is joined by Thomas Brejcha, founder, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Society. Brejcha speaks to the importance of a nativity scene in the seat of government in Springfield and addresses the message of the antithetical display provided by the Satanic Temple of Illinois. Larrick and Brejcha also discuss vaccine mandates and gubernatorial overreach, the Mississippi abortion case under consideration by the Supreme Court of the United States, and attempts by the Federal Health and Human Services Administration to eliminate the religious objection for health providers in regard to abortion and gender transition.
