SPOTLIGHT: The Problem With Becoming Pro Death

Written by Alyssa Sonnenburg

“The End of Life Options Act” was introduced in the Illinois Senate on January 13, 2025 by State Senator Linda Holmes (D-Aurora) and in the Illinois House on January 14, 2025 by State Representative Robyn Gabel (D-Chicago).

If this bill is passed into law, doctors will be legally allowed to prescribe death-inducing drugs to patients who are suffering from terminal illnesses.

This push to legalize physician-assisted suicide (PAS) was added to a shell bill during the last week of regular session and then passed in the Illinois House by a vote of 63 to 42, with two members voting “present.” Eleven state representatives did not cast a vote on the legislation.

This episode of Spotlight features Alex Schadenberg’s speech during the 2023 SpeakOut Illinois conference. Alex Schadenberg is an author and is the executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, which is based in Canada.

In his role as executive director, Schadenberg aims to highlight not only the dangers of legalized euthanasia, but also give insight into other pro-suicide actions.

“[If you are calling suicide healthcare], you have a serious problem.”

Take ACTION: Click HERE to email your state senator to ask him/her to vote NO. While our chances are slim, stopping this bill in the Senate will require a significant dose of ‘salt and light’ from Christians. Urge your state senator to reject the push to normalize suicide in Illinois.
