100 Days In: Major Progress Securing the Border

Written by David E. Smith

This week, the White House celebrates the first 100 days of Donald Trump‘s second term as POTUS by focusing on the progress that has been made securing the border. In fact, the lawn outside the White House was lined with posters of 100 of the “worst illegal immigrant criminals” arrested under the new administration, including rapists, murderers, and criminals who attacked children.

At the Monday morning press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was joined by Border Czar Tom Homan to report on the significant progress that has been made during this time period. Homan pointed out:

We handed the Biden administration the most secure border in my lifetime, and he unsecured it on purpose. Under the Biden administration, we averaged over 11,000, many days over 12,000. Some days, 15,000 illegal entrants in the United States. You know what the number was last 24 hours? 178. 15,000 to 178. Unprecedented success in the first 100 days, it was actually January 20th to April 1st. Last year, 184,000 illegal aliens were released into the United States. Under this administration, nine.

Homan also explained why he gets emotional at press conferences and when he testifies before Congress:

Because if they wore my shoes for 40 years, they’d understand why I’m emotional. When you listen to the Laken Riley [story] that young lady fighting for her life, don’t just think, “Okay, a young woman died.” Think of how she died, the terror that she went through, and these children that are sexually assaulted. I stood in the back of a tractor-trailer and 19 dead people at my feet that baked to death. Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime.

The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan questioned Homan about the “very high number of sexual assaults” committed against children by illegal immigrants, asking “Can you comment on that and why there are so many crimes against children committed by illegals in this country?” Homan responded:

I don’t know why. It’s sick. The amount of child rapists we’ve arrested under this administration that could have been arrested under Biden administration. They were out there. They had their final orders. They were out there, but they didn’t go look for them.

Wanting to know more, I asked Thomas Hampson for his reaction. Hampson, a former Air Force Intelligence Analyst, Chief Investigator for the Illinois Legislative Investigating Commission, and Chicago Crime Commission board member sent me the following eye-opening statement:

We don’t need to import any additional predators to sexually exploit children. We have way too many of our own. At least 20% of our children are sexually abused before they reach 18. In almost all of the third world countries, that figure is much higher. In Guatemala, for example, 75% of the girls are sexually exploited before adulthood. Children are seen as objects to be used. I’m glad Tom Homan and this administration are committed to rounding them all up and sending them back.

That seems to be a top priority for this Trump administration. The White House reiterated their commitment to border security and purging criminal aliens in a post on X, warning:

Homan also addressed the arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan in Milwaukee for obstructing an ICE arrest. It is shocking to learn how a district court judge would aid and abet an illegal alien accused of violent crimes. (Learn more HERE.)

Near the end of the press briefing, Homan outlined the legal requirements for illegal aliens to register with the Department of Homeland Security and the penalties for failing to comply, including monetary fines and jail time, saying

“Make no mistake, if you’re in the country illegally and you fail to do what the law requires, we will prosecute you, you will go to jail, then we’ll deport you.”
