SPOTLIGHT: In Defense of Parental Notice of Abortion

Written by David E. Smith

Parents for the Protection of Girls – a grassroots movement to uphold and defend parental notice – recently hosted an online news conference in defense of Illinois’s Parental Notice of Abortion Act. This edition of Spotlight provides especially timely information from the event and highlights numerous reasons why the Parental Notice of Abortion Act must be upheld. Following is a list of conference participants:

Mary Hallan FioRito, a fellow at the Ethics & Public Policy Center and moderator of the forum.

Jon Jones, a worship pastor at Christian Life Center in Blue Island, IL. His remarks in support of parental notification reflect a father’s love and concern for the wellbeing of his daughter.

Laura J. Lederer, an internationally recognized expert on human trafficking. Miss Lederer serves on the board of directors of Global Centurion, an NGO which fights sex slavery around the world. She defends the need for parental notification of abortion with respect to the realities of sex trafficking.

Dr. Brook Bello, a human trafficking survivor. Dr. Bello holds a doctorate in pastoral counseling and is the founder and CEO of More Too Life. She shares her tragic personal experience and emphasizes the difference parental notification can make in a young girl’s life.

Dr. Jackie Pifer, holds a doctoral degree in psychology and is an expert in brain development in teenagers. With nearly thirty years of clinical experience, including six years as a neuropsychologist, Dr. Pifer’s defense of the Parental Notice of Abortion Act is informed by her extensive knowledge of adolescent brain development.

These doctors/parents/researchers/experts present a compelling case for the state of Illinois to keep the Parental Notice of Abortion law intact. The forum concludes with a Q&A session. Please listen and share this podcast:

Take Action: Click HERE to contact your state lawmakers. Let them know that gutting or repealing the Parental Notice of Abortion Act is unacceptable. Ask them to oppose any and all efforts to repeal or amend the law and, instead, uphold parental rights.

More Action: Look up your state representative at Officials Finder. Or, if you know his/her name, you can ask to be connected to his/her office through the State Capitol switchboard at (217) 782-2000.

Bulletin Insert: Ask your pastor to share this bulletin insert with your congregation.  The body of Christ and people of faith must be notified of this effort and encouraged to speak out now.
