SPOTLIGHT: The Aftermath of Abortion

Written by Benjamin Smith

Monte Larrick recently interviewed Vicki Thorn, the keynote speaker at the recent Lake County Right to Life banquet. Vicki founded Project Rachel in 1984, a ministry of the Catholic Church to post-abortive women. You can read more about this ministry here. Ms. Thorn is also the Executive Director of the National Office of Post-Abortion Reconciliation and Healing.

In this week’s Spotlight podcast, they discuss the healing process of post-abortive women, Project Rachel, some of the road-blocks to healing, the impact of abortion on men, post-abortive women in the church, and discuss whether churches are doing enough to help post-abortive men and women. They also discuss the biological impact of abortion.

While the General Assembly has adjourned for the summer, the legislative process is far from finished. We are very concerned about HB 40, a pending piece of legislation that has passed the Illinois House and Illinois Senate and will soon be sent to the governor.  This legislation would force taxpayers to pay for abortions for Medicaid recipients and state employees through their medical insurance. If signed into law, and based on the number of Medicaid recipients, taxpayers would potentially be paying for 15,000 or more additional abortions per year. It must be stopped at the governor’s desk. So, once again, we call your attention to this important issue.

Take ACTION: Click Here to email Governor Bruce Rauner. Urge him to keep his pledge to veto HB 40 in its entirety. Also, please continue to call the governor’s public comment line every day until this is resolved: (217) 782-0244 and (312) 814-2121.

HB 40 is a spending bill that expands entitlements. Illinois owes $10 billion in unpaid bills with tens of billions more in unfunded liabilities. Illinois has the lowest credit rating in the nation because we can’t pay our bills.

Thank you for taking action!
