SPOTLIGHT: A Victory for Young People, Pastors and Religious Liberty in Illinois

Written by Benjamin Smith

On this week’s edition of Illinois Family Spotlight, Monte Larrick talks to John Mauck, an attorney and partner of the Mauck and Baker law firm based in downtown Chicago.  Mauck and Baker is nationally known for representing churches, religious institutions, businesses, and individuals.

John gives us an update about their lawsuit against HB 217, a new law which bans professional counselors from helping minor children who are struggling with unwanted same-sex attraction. Illinois is one of seven states, and the only one in the Midwest, that censors professional therapists specifically from treating and consulting young people who want help with sinful thoughts about same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria.

John also talks with Monte about religious liberty, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, and taxpayer funding of abortion in Illinois (HB 40).

John has been an attorney for over 30 years, and has represented hundreds of churches and ministries in Chicago to provide religious land use in restricted areas of the city. His work drafting the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act which became federal law in 2000 has helped congregations across the country freely worship.

Take ACTION:  Call Governor Rauner’s office and ask him to veto HB 40! (217) 782-0244.
