Why Are Black Americans Still Trusting Democrats?
Written by Rev. Ceasar LeFlore
“Republican blacks are like out of their minds, they’re insane on so many levels, and I would say that absolutely.”
Well, if I could respond directly to Congressman Jackson, I would say to him,
“It is interesting to me that the overwhelming majority of black people have been voting Democratic for over 60 years now and if challenged to honestly declare what this unfounded loyalty to Democrats has done for us, that answer would be a big, fat NOTHING!”
Scratch that, it’s been an absolute disaster for us.
I would say,
“Look around brother Jackson! If you would make an honest assessment of our current situation, you would admit that black Democrat-led cities are the poorest run and most run-down cities in the country. You would weep when you realized that black children living in those cities, almost exclusively from Democrat families, are the most poorly educated and have no solid foundation at home thanks to Democrat policies that undermine the family.”
What policies, you ask?
I am talking about welfare policies and entitlement programs that practically subsidize and encourage out of wedlock childbearing and serve to trap poor blacks in generational cycles of poverty and dependency. These policies represent the crown jewels of every Democrat list of campaign promises and trusting in them has led many blacks to become an almost completely dependent class of people.
In her book Uncle Sam’s Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America’s Poor and What We Can do About It, my friend and former colleague Star Parker argues that
“expansive welfare programs have replaced traditional community structures and have enslaved, rather than helped the poor.”
Look at cities like Chicago in Cook County which represents the seat of Democrat authority in Illinois. Black children in mind boggling numbers are being shot dead in the streets from gang and drug violence, just as they are in cities across America where the entire government is controlled exclusively by black Democrats. Crime, violence, and poverty are what comes to mind whenever you think of cities like Memphis, Detroit, Little Rock, and Atlanta to name just a few. No matter whether they are in a red state or blue state, cities where Democrats are in control are almost always the worst places to live, especially for our precious children.
Here is the sad reality, just as was predicted by Daniel Patrick Moynihan in his report on black family decline in the 1965 paper entitled The Moynihan Report. Other ethnic groups have passed up the black community in economic and political power, and the gaps are widening. At the time of his report the illegitimacy rate in the black community was 24%.
Today it’s a whopping 72%, and even higher in some parts of the country.
This decline of the intact biblical family structure can without question be directly tied to liberal Democrat policies, and sadly white Democrats who are behind these destructive policies still look to only blacks to bolster their own political and economic power.
Democrats know that blacks will vote for them no matter what, just as Lyndon B. Johnson predicted when he signed the Republican-led Civil Rights Act of 1964, and since then, using that as a backdrop, every election cycle, Democrats continue to cast themselves as the only hope for black people, and we swallow it hook, line, and sinker. Like almost everyone I know in my age group, the first vote I ever cast was for Democrat Jimmy Carter, because I was raised to believe that black people voted for only Democrats.
Someone said that “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again hoping to get a different result.” Perhaps we should consider that before we start ascribing insanity to black conservatives and Republicans who simply choose to follow a different path than what has failed us so miserably in the past. And I do not mean the distant past, but rather current events.
Just recently we have had a black Democrat president for 8 years, a black female Democrat vice-president for 4 years, a black Democrat Attorney General, a black Democrat house minority leader, the largest cities led by black Democrats, hundreds of black Democratic legislators, particularly a large increase of black Democrat women, all bolstered by a sympathetic media. What specifically have they done to improve the black condition in America?
I would offer that because of their strict adherence to the leftist, socialist, and Marxist ideologies that make up the core of the Democrat platform, these black leaders have served to only strengthen the hands of those who seek to limit, oppress, and even destroy black people. I’m talking about groups like Planned Parenthood, the teachers unions, and especially the destructive capacity that can only be found in the government schools’ system which Carter G. Woodson described as being “a place of oppression and indoctrination for Negroes.”
Black people would do well to start depending on God and themselves to improve their condition, and stop being mesmerized by the same fake promises from Democrats.
You don’t have to be a Republican, but there is certainly nothing that indicates continuing to look only to Democrats is any productive strategy.
