Senator Josh Hawley’s PAC Has Trump Officials Furious

Written by Alyssa Sonnenburg

Last week, Republican Senator Josh Hawley, along with his wife Erin Hawley, a constitutional attorney affiliated with the Alliance Defending Freedom National Law Center, announced the launch of a new political action committee (PAC) – the Love Life Initiative.

According to its mission, the Love Life Initiative embodies:

“ [the] desire to restore a conviction that life is sacred, life is good, and life is worth protecting.”

Sounds like a message that every Republican can get behind, right?

Wrong.

Instead of being met with enthusiasm and support, the Hawleys’ launch of the Love Life Initiative was met with sneers, condescension, and patronization.

This past Monday, Axios reported that Trump officials are “furious” with the launch of this new PAC.

An unnamed, close Trump advisor was quoted as saying,

“Clearly, Senator Hawley and his political team learned nothing from the 2022 elections, when the SCOTUS abortion ruling [overturning Roe v. Wade] resuscitated the Democrats in the midterms…

Picking a fight on an issue like abortion in a midterm is the height of asinine stupidity.”

It is clear that Trump officials view the issue of abortion and the championing of life in the womb as a “bad” political move and instead put winning elections as a higher priority.

Since 1973, the year that Roe v. Wade was signed into law, over 63 million abortions have occurred in the United States.

63 million babies.

Can you imagine if, in the 1930-1940s, so-called “pro-Jew” politicians viewed wanting to protect Jews from Auschwitz as a “bad look for midterms?”

The outcry would have been deafening and the position would have been indefensible.

Yet, somehow, this very mindset is allowed and even propagated by those who claim to be  “conservatives” and even “Christians.”

Quite frankly, I believe that God cares more about the protection of His creation of preborn life in the womb than He does about your re-election.

If we were honest with ourselves, we might be forced to face the ugly truth that America is in the moral position that it is in because too many politicians care more about beating their liberal counterparts than they do about actually being conservative.

The outcry against Senator Hawley for championing the protection preborn life is just a symptom of the downfall of the so-called “conservative party.”

It also begs the important question– what does it mean to be a conservative?

What are we conserving?

If being a conservative simply means “beating the Democrats,” I am not interested.

The conservatism that I have always been and will always champion is the same conservatism that grips the hearts of Josh and Erin Hawley.

The belief that we are seeking to conserve Judeo-Christian values and Biblical truth.

  • The right to life for babies in the womb,
  • The biblical definition of marriage and sexuality, and
  • The protection of children and the belief in the authority of parents, to name a few.

If being a true conservative– if standing up for what is right, true and lovely costs you an election– so be it.

Heed the warning of our Savior in Matthew 16:26:

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?”

You can win every election by compromising, but lose your soul.

You might lose an election by standing for truth, but you will gain an eternal reward. And you’ll never know this side of heaven those whom you influenced by that truth.

If America is ever to come back to its roots– to repent of its evil– it will take men like Josh Hawley who are uncompromising in their faith and their values.

The way to election success and cultural popularity is broad, but the way to eternal life and true reward is narrow.

Which will you choose?

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)
