SPOTLIGHT: Planned Parenthood Has Lost $800 Million – Now What?

Written by Jenna Smith

In a significant legislative victory for life activists, President Donald Trump’s recent signature on the Federal budget bill is being hailed as a crucial step towards the potential defunding of Planned Parenthood. The Republican-led spending blueprint specifically targets organizations that perform abortions by denying them access to Medicaid funding.

While the legislation carefully avoids mentioning Planned Parenthood by name, the organization, a major provider of reproductive health services, stands to face substantial financial repercussions. Planned Parenthood currently receives approximately $800 million in annual taxpayer subsidies, a significant portion of which is now at risk of deep cuts for at least a year.

This move represents a long-sought goal for pro life advocates, who have consistently argued against the use of public funds for any organization associated with murdering pre born babies.

Eric Scheidler, the Executive Director for the Pro-Life Action League, expressed strong approval of this legislative effort. Speaking with Spotlight during a demonstration held near the expansive Aurora Planned Parenthood clinic, Scheidler underscored the significance of the budget cuts.

“This is a monumental step. “We have been fighting for decades to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not funneled to organizations that perform abortions, and this budget provision is a testament to the perseverance of the pro-life movement.”
