SPOTLIGHT: This We Believe
Written by Jenna Smith
Recording from the annual Illinois Christian Home Educator’s (ICHE) Convention at Olivet Nazarine University in Bourbonais, Monte Larrick conducts his annual interview with ICHE’s executive director, Kirk Smith.
The Illinois Christian Home Educators (ICHE) is a not-for-profit Christian organization dedicated to supporting families who choose to home educate their children throughout Illinois. Founded in December 1983 by four Christian families, its core mission is to encourage and equip parents to glorify Jesus Christ by discipling their children through home-based education. ICHE serves as a central hub, networking with numerous Christian homeschool support groups statewide to foster fellowship and facilitate information exchange.
To fulfill its mission, ICHE provides a wide array of resources, including articles and audio downloads for both new and experienced home educators. They also organize various events, such as the annual ICHE State Convention, which features national speakers, workshops on diverse topics, and an exhibit hall with curriculum suppliers. Additionally, ICHE sponsors family camps and conferences designed for mothers and young adults, all while advocating for the freedom and legal right of parents to homeschool in Illinois.
