SPOTLIGHT: 40 Days for Life

Written by Alyssa Sonnenburg

40 Days for Life is a essential and vital part of the pro-life movement. The constant intercession they make to God on behalf of those contemplating abortion has saved 22,855 lives since 2007, closed 136 abortion centers, and has caused 247 abortion workers to quit. Their silent witness to passersby and the love they show by their presence outside of an abortion clinic can literally be the difference between life and death.

Because our lawmakers have turned Illinois into a sanctuary state for abortion and are now taking steps to destroy pregnancy care centers, prayer warriors are needed now more than ever before. 40 Days for Life is committed to prayer and constant vigil outside of abortion clinics. According to their website,

The visible, public centerpiece of 40 Days for Life is a focused, 40-day, non-stop, round-the-clock prayer vigil outside a single Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facility in your community. It is a peaceful and educational presence. Those who are called to stand witness during this 24-hour-a-day presence send a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion.

Prayer is powerful and it has the power to help women say “no” to abortion. Catherine, a 40 Days for Life volunteer testifies,

We know, and it’s been confirmed by previous abortion workers, that up to 75% of women turn from their appointments when there are people outside peacefully praying.
