A Bad Couple of Weeks for Pre-Born Americans Thanks to Republicans

Written by John Biver

It hasn’t been a good couple of weeks for the pre-born in America. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner signed HB 40, allowing for taxpayer funding of abortions. In Washington, D.C., Republicans still haven’t gotten their act together regarding their promised defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Here is Dr. Susan Berry writing a rather simple sentence:

Republicans have presented themselves to Americans as a pro-life party, and promised to defund Planned Parenthood once they had control of the House, the Senate, and the White House.

For over eight months now, pro-life Republican voters have watched their elected representatives in Congress fail to fulfill the promise they have been making for seven years: repeal and replace Obamacare.

While millions of Americans lose their insurance due to skyrocketing premiums, Planned Parenthood still gets to use millions of your tax dollars to kill unborn babies.

The same article that contains the quote above included this fact from Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America:

“[T]omorrow, Planned Parenthood will receive another $1.52 million in taxpayer funds and end the life of 897 babies… This will continue every single day, until the Senate fulfills their promises.”

Some see the blame for this belonging to the political leadership in the U.S. Senate. Here is the title of and an excerpt from a news release from Operation Rescue:

Pro-Life Leader Calls for McConnell’s Resignation Over Senate Inability to Defund Planned Parenthood

[It has been] announced that the Graham-Cassidy Repeal and Replace Obamacare bill has been pulled due to three Republican defections, including Sen. John McCain of Arizona. That bill would have prevented over $500 million in tax dollars from going to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the nation.

The withdrawal of the bill kills any hope of defunding Planned Parenthood of Federal tax money until next year.

“I am extremely disappointed in the Republican members of the U.S. Senate who could not band together to get this bill done. It angers me that we have to fund Planned Parenthood for another year. This means Planned Parenthood will have the resources it needs to continue its killing spree, and thousands of lives will be lost because of it,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Co-Founder of the Center for Medical Progress, which exposed Planned Parenthood’s participation in the illegal sale organs and tissue obtained from aborted babies.

Newman called this failure “unacceptable,” and called on Senate Majority Leader President Mitch McConnell to resign from his position. “Republicans must replace him with someone who can unite the majority and lead the Senate to accomplish President Trump’s agenda,” Newman added, “and that includes saving innocent lives by defunding Planned Parenthood. This kind of betrayal of innocent children must not happen again.”

Not everyone is unhappy with McConnell’s leadership as you can see from this tweet:
