Neurological science is catching up with the tech revolution. Our brains, a growing body of research shows, are sitting ducks for the stimuli found on cellphones, social media and computer screens, making us want even more.

The 24/7 news feed makes it tough to relax when a crisis is always going on somewhere, and we can engage in “doom scrolling.” Our bodies emit “fight or flight” chemicals when we feel endangered, anxious or stressed.… Continue Reading

Written by David E. Smith

For years, conservatives have warned that America’s welfare system—especially the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—has been riddled with fraud, waste, and abuse. Now, at long last, someone in Washington D.C. is taking the problem seriously. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has announced a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s food stamps program, and the changes could not be more timely.

Roughly 43 million Americans—about 12 percent of the population—are enrolled in SNAP.… Continue Reading

Written by Star Parker

One big word worth learning is “schadenfreude.”

Schadenfreude is “pleasure derived by someone from another person’s misfortune.”

Nothing better captures the perverse pleasure that Democrats are deriving from the pain inflicted on our country caused by the government shutdown.

Democrats precipitated this shutdown to force Republicans to back off efforts to turn around our suicidal growth of government spending and debt.

House Republicans passed a continuing resolution ready for the president’s signature to fund the government, but Democrats said no.… Continue Reading

Written by Michael Lucci

Illinois’ sluggish jobs recovery is coming at a tremendous cost. For every post-recession job created in Illinois, nearly two people have enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps.

In the recession era, the number of Illinoisans dependent on food stamps has risen by 745,000. Without adequate job creation in the state, Illinois families have had no choice but to depend upon food stamps to put bread on the table.… Continue Reading
