British sociologist Noah Carl is the one who reported it: the political right has seemingly lost all confidence in the “scientific community.”

Percentage of Americans with “a great deal” of confidence in the scientific community, broken down by party. (The most recent data point is 2022.) pic.twitter.com/cXvheG2kde

The data he used came from a “general social survey,” something whose reliability would perhaps seem suspect if the findings didn’t also match most of our anecdotal, personal experiences.… Continue Reading

It doesn’t annoy me that people have disparate opinions on issues that matter, or more specifically, that others would find my own personal opinions ill-informed or wrong. The world might well be a boring place if everyone agreed on everything, so you won’t find me in the camp of those wishing to eliminate intellectual or ideological diversity.

What does annoy me is when a sizable group of people are willing to suspend intellectual curiosity to the issues that matter, put their fingers in their metaphorical ears, and refuse any modicum of critical thinking when forming and spouting opinions.… Continue Reading

Sometimes, particularly in the toxic world of social media, it’s difficult to know whether people are being honest and earnest in their questions or whether they’re trying to make a statement.

Usually, after a modicum of research it becomes apparent, as was the case with the recent query posted by online anti-Trump activist John Collins:

Can someone explain to me why any woman would vote Republican at this point?

— John Collins (@Logically_JC) September 12, 2024

I know that’s an attempted jab, a straightforward slight, smacking of an arrogantly patriarchal mindset, directed at women who see the world differently than him.… Continue Reading

To say it was a bad look would be an insult to bad looks.

Over the weekend, Jonathan Karl, host of ABC’s Sunday morning talk show “This Week” humiliated himself in a conversation with U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR).

One of the worst sycophantic performances I’ve seen coming from a mainstream network anchor.

I am a fan of Tom Cotton.
The over-politicization of our culture has ruined so much. Among plenty of other things, our language has been one of the greatest casualties of our 24-hour “news” culture, our obsession over ideological purity and political scandal. Words don’t mean what they used to mean anymore.

People who aren’t bigots are called bigots because it’s easier to call names than make arguments.

Things that aren’t racism are deemed racist because shaming is easier than logically engaging.… Continue Reading

It was several years ago that in preparing a speech for an upcoming event, I flipped on the local evening news.

The first story of the night was a double homicide on the city’s northeast side. The second story was that police feared a serial rapist had struck again. The third story involved a string of armed robberies. And then it happened: The anchors turned to the fourth item on their laundry list of bad news, and detailed the removal of the Ten Commandments display at the local courthouse following a legal challenge.… Continue Reading

In case you missed it last week, it seems some small outfit called the Satanic Temple won the right – on religious freedom grounds – to display a statue of Baphomet, a satanic occult figure, in the Iowa capitol building. The spectacle was to appear for a period of two weeks, but thanks to a Navy veteran named Michael Cassidy, the freakish ram’s head-on-a-mannequin didn’t quite make it that long.

Claiming he was outraged by the “blasphemous statue,” Cassidy said his conscience drove him to chop the thing’s head off and topple it.… Continue Reading

I think we all remember where we were when we heard the news on June 30, 2021. Our long national nightmare was finally over. At long last, Americans – my countrymen – were going to be given a 3rd gender option on all State Department documents like passports. It was moving beyond words.

Besides correcting the discriminatory oversight of those humanoids who are neither male nor female, it was the surest sign yet that, as promised during the 2020 Biden campaign, the “adults were back in charge.”… Continue Reading

Among other places, it recently showed itself in CHAZ, or CHOP, or whatever name the anarchists in Seattle ended up calling their little exercise in autonomy that predictably ended in murder, theft, and humiliating failure.

And don’t think I was rooting against them.

For someone who has always thought it is much easier to point out the superiority of conservative thought by being able to point to actual examples of leftism-in-action rather than arguing against theoretical concepts being taught by unserious utopian dreamers in campus lecture halls to doe-eyed freshmen who are incapable of resisting conformity, I was all for CHAZ continuing in perpetuity.… Continue Reading

Make no mistake about it, Anna Kendrick, the actress/singer famous for roles in the Pitch Perfect and Trolls movies, undoubtedly considers herself quite woke. She is a Hollywood actress who is fully cognizant of what she’s supposed to say, when she’s supposed to say it, and what power she is supposed to “speak truth” to in order to maintain pop culture credibility.

That said, Kendrick bravely ventured into a position of “unlikely voice of reason” on Twitter recently when she properly identified what the mainstream media has been decidedly unable to deduce or unwilling to admit.… Continue Reading

If I hadn’t watched the clip twice, I wouldn’t have actually believed what I was seeing. CNN anchor Brian Stelter, the man who hosts a program called Reliable Sources no less, stared at me through the camera in the most serious tones he could muster. Discussing the upcoming days in the impeachment inquiry, Stelter motioned noticeably at the screen next to him and cautioned,

Perfect. It was perfect. What Don Lemon, one of the most unscrupulous actors posing as a journalist on television today, did to a black minister live on television last week stands as the perfect depiction of why people hate the media, why the president’s punches against them always land so forcefully, and why his employer CNN is cratering to what seems like unsustainably low ratings.

It was also perfect that not long before, CNN’s resident “senior media reporter” Oliver Darcy had criticized Fox News’ resident loudmouth Tomi Lahren for “reprehensible commentary.” … Continue Reading

NPR recently ran a silly story with this provocative headline: “We All Owe Al Gore an Apology.” I dissent.

Let’s first be clear about Gore. After losing the 2000 presidential election, Gore found a cause to peddle in global warming. He partnered with affluent donors, created a documentary full of hyperbolic exaggeration and dire warnings about an impending ecological armageddon, and made millions. And millions. He divorced his wife and became the international playboy of global warming-turned-climate change-turned-climate disruption-turned-whatever we’re calling it now.… Continue Reading

Written by Peter Heck

One of the most remarkable stories you’ll read is that of John Newton, author of the globally famous song Amazing Grace. Newton was a slave ship captain who repented of his sins, became a minister, and whose personal testimonies of the horrors of the slave trade were used effectively by the great William Wilberforce to prosecute the practice before Parliament.

But here’s what few people realize about Newton’s life: his conversion to Christ did not lead to his immediate deliverance from the life of a slave trader. … Continue Reading

“No one is pro-abortion.” That’s what the commenter said in response to one of my stories last week about the sudden, unveiled, and frighteningly bold push by progressives to advocate for nothing short of legalizing infanticide. It was nice to see that even with the left’s newfound stomach for abortion that is anything but “safe and rare,” they were still willing to fall back onto tired, worn-out semantical games to justify the gruesome ritual.… Continue Reading

The Democrat Party in America has a real problem. It’s been brewing for some time, but it’s bubbling over at this point and those who would continue shrouding, cloaking, downplaying, or veiling the issue are no longer able to do so.

The Democrat Party in America has become obsessed with abortion. Not just attentive, not just involved, not just committed. They are obsessed with the practice of killing infants in the womb. … Continue Reading

The Apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome begins with an indictment of the corruption surrounding them that is chilling in its parallels to contemporary American society. If you doubt me, go read Romans 1, verses 21 through 32, and just try to pretend it isn’t as though Paul is writing a response to our frontpage headlines.

I find myself being drawn back to this passage nearly every time I go to write on the most recent pop culture trend or societal debacle brought on by Orwellian-named progressivism. … Continue Reading

I know that abortion apologists have come to believe it is their strongest counterpoint to say, “You are pro-birth, not pro-life,” but it is not. At all.

The bizarre statement is utterly false, of course, given the overwhelming numbers of Christian and pro-life adoption agencies, care centers, churches, missions, and foster homes that nurture hurting and abandoned children. But to demonstrate how morally repugnant of an argument this is for the left, suppose for a second that it was a true statement.… Continue Reading
