On April 3rd, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, as part of a coalition of 19 state attorneys general, filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over an executive order President Trump signed in March, which they claim is an unconstitutional attempt to impose sweeping voting restrictions across the country.

The lawsuit refers to Executive Order No. 14248, which is a lawful and necessary measure to protect election integrity, especially in federal elections.… Continue Reading

IFA Staff Reports

We are facing a crucial primary election on June 28–an election unlike any in recent memory. To help ensure our path leads to greater protection of our freedoms, heed the words of Bobby Piton, Illinois candidate for United States Senate:

“This the most important vote in Illinois in our lifetime. Vote David Shestokas for Illinois Attorney General.”

Why does Bobby Piton say this? Because it’s true. The importance of the office of attorney general (AG) is clear.… Continue Reading

Written by Kristi Shaffer

The right to vote is nearly sacred in the United States. Elections are closely monitored for an accurate count and assurance that the voices of the people are heard. At least that is the intended outcome of the election process, but, far too often, things go awry. Many of us watched back-and-forth recounts, audits, and legal battles in various states over the 2020 presidential election. However, there was a battle right here in Illinois for election legitimacy of which few were aware.… Continue Reading

Welcome to part two of Monte Larrick’s conversation with David Shestokas, attorney and Republican candidate for Illinois Attorney General. In this Spotlight, the discussion turns to Governor Pritzker’s abuse of his emergency powers and executive orders – a deliberate overreach that has been enabled by the legislature’s abdication of their authority, as well as the failure of Kwame Raoul (the current Attorney General) to protect the public interests of the citizens of Illinois and to enforce the law set forth in the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act.… Continue Reading

There are more Democratic Party candidates for attorney general (8) than there are for governor (6). Speaker Michael Madigan’s daughter, Lisa Madigan, retiring after the end of her fourth term, has held the office since first being elected in 2002.

The candidates are State Rep. Scott Drury, Sharon Fairley, Aaron Goldstein, Renato Mariotti, State Sen. Kwame Raoul, Nancy Rotering, Jesse Ruiz, and former governor Pat Quinn.… Continue Reading

Now that we have covered the declared candidates, it’s time to take a look at a few who haven’t yet thrown their hat into the ring. (You can read our previous posts here, here, here and here.)

The Wikipedia page on the “Illinois gubernatorial election, 2018” lists more than a dozen “potential” candidates, but for now we’re only going to focus on three:
