During a U.S. House Judiciary Committee Hearing on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, U.S. Representative Victoria Spartz (R-IN) emphatically complained to Attorney General Merrick Garland that there is growing fear of government persecution among Americans, saying at one point, “It’s like KGB.”

In a subsequent Tweet later, she points out:

“As someone who grew up in the Soviet Union, I’m disturbed by the fact that so many hardworking Americans—including my constituents—are afraid of political persecution by our own government.”

Special Counsel John Durham released a 316-page report this week on the origins of the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. It is deeply troubling. Even Mike Pompeo — who  served as director of the CIA (2017 to 2018) and as U.S. Secretary of State (2018 to 2021) — concluded:

The report of special counsel John Durham is, or ought to be, devastating for anyone who has put any credence in what has now been definitively revealed to be the Russia collusion hoax.

With a painstaking examination of the evidence (1,753 footnotes!), Durham establishes conclusively that there was no basis for the FBI to have begun its Crossfire Hurricane investigation of ties between the Trump campaign and Russia in July 2016. There’s a second wave of media reaction to John Durham‘s latest filing on the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation. The first wave was silence, hoping somehow the whole story would vanish. Now the second wave is “Explainers,” which attempt to hem and haw defensively through the whole business.
