U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) sent a letter on August 4, 2025 that asked IRS Commissioner Billy Long to investigate the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) for compliance with IRS Section 501C3. However, Billy Long is no longer the IRS Commissioner.  Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has temporarily taken charge as the IRS Director.
