Pelosi’s Nonsensical Response to Biden Abuse Allegations

Written by Laurie Higgins

In addition to the many sound policy decisions President Trump has made, one of the most important things to emerge from his election is the exposure of the breadth and depth of the hypocrisy of Democrats. Recently that hypocrisy has been revealed in the way Democrats have responded to sexual abuse allegations against presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

While foaming at the mouth about allegations that Brett Kavanaugh had forcibly laid atop Christine Blasey Ford somewhere, sometime when they were teenagers, Democratic women like Mazie Hirono, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Elizabeth Warren have been struck mealy-mouthed when responding to claims that Joe Biden forcibly digitally penetrated a 29-year-old staffer when he was 51 years old. Brittle Speaker of the U.S. House Nancy Pelosi bristled with sanctimony at this reasonable (though awkwardly worded) question from a female journalist:

How do Democrats square with the idea that they’re essentially standing by Biden, but they’re using a comparatively different standard with Kavanaugh when you demanded an investigation on Justice Kavanaugh when a very similar allegation came out on him?

Pelosi cut her off and responded testily and nonsensically:

[L]et me just say I respect your question, and I don’t need a lecture or a speech.

Here’s the thing. I have complete respect for the whole MeToo Movement, I have four daughters and one son, and there’s a lot of excitement around the idea that women will be heard and will be listened to.

There is also due process, and the fact that Joe Biden is Joe Biden, there’s been statements from … his former employees who ran his offices … that there was never any record of this. … and that nobody ever came forward, or nobody came forward to say something about it apart from the principal involved.

I am so proud, that happiest day for me this week was to support Joe Biden for President of the United States. He’s a person of great integrity, great concern for the American people. He authored the Violence Against Women Act when he was the chair of the Judiciary Committee in the ’90s. He has been an advocate for funding it all along since then, and I believe that he will be a great President of United States. He is the personification of hope, and optimism, and authenticity for our country, a person of great values.

So I want to remove all doubt in anyone’s mind, I have a great comfort level with the situation as I see it with all the respect in the world for any woman who comes forward, with all the highest regard for Joe Biden. And that’s what I have to say about that, thank you. Excuse me.

And with that inartful dance of obfuscation, she skittered off.

Let’s break down her obfuscation into its silly parts.

First, she lied as she condescendingly mischaracterized the journalist’s question as a “lecture or speech.” Pelosi clearly didn’t “respect” her question, which was neither a lecture nor a speech.

Then to establish her bona fides as a respecter of the whole MeToo movement, Pelosi proudly announced that she has four daughters—oh, and a son—but he’s irrelevant because he’s male and ewww gross. Having daughters is no guarantee of support for either abused women or women who allege abuse. Let’s remember that Hillary Clinton has a daughter, and yet that didn’t stop her from attacking the women whom Bill Clinton exploited, and/or abused, and/or raped.

I’m not sure what to make of her family’s “excitement around the idea that women will be heard and will be listened to.” How is her family’s alleged excitement about the MeToo movement relevant to the question about how the Democrats square their response to allegations against Biden with their response to allegations against Justice Kavanaugh?

Then Pelosi with nose a’growing above her forked tongue claimed fealty to “due process.” Ohhhh, is that what Pelosi calls what the distaff mob composed of the likes of Hirono, Gillibrand, and Maxine Waters were engaged in when they declared Justice Kavanaugh guilty based on zero corroborating evidence? Got it.

While Pelosi said that some unnamed employees said there is no record of Tara Reade’s allegation, she failed to mention that such a record might be found in Biden’s papers that the University of Delaware possesses and has not released. Imagine the caterwauling from Democrats who were demanding multiple FBI investigations of Kavanaugh if such a stash of his papers had been held by a public university.

Pelosi, with no evident sense of irony, cited Biden’s support for the Violence Against Women Act, apparently as proof that he didn’t digitally rape Tara Reade. Surely Pelosi hasn’t forgotten that lady killer Ted Kennedy co-sponsored that bill, and Bill Clinton signed it into law.

Without ever addressing the journalist’s question, Pelosi then launched into campaign mode, proclaiming that Biden is the very “personification” of hope, optimism, and authenticity. And her “comfort level with the situation” should, in her view, remove all doubt—not just some—but every morsel of doubt from every American voter. And despite the fact that she’s implicitly calling Tara Reade a liar, Pelosi wants everyone to know that she has “all the respect in the world” for her.

Yeah, riiight.
